    A self-help group (SHG) is a village-based financial intermediary usually composed of 10–20 local women. Self Help Group – Bank Linkage Programme (SHG-BLP) was started by NABARD in 1992-93 by piloting with 500 SHGs. Now more than 2 million SHGs having more than 30 million women are linked to banks.
