NICL Assistant Officer Mains Exam Pattern: Generalists & Specialists

The Main Examination is an important phase of the selection process for various disciplines, except for Hindi Officers, in the National Insurance Company Limited (NICL). It is conducted online and comprises two types of tests: Objective Tests and Descriptive Test.

NICL Assistant Officer Descriptive Test

The Descriptive Test, which carries 30 marks and lasts for 30 minutes, is an essential part of the NICL Assistant Officer Mains examination. It evaluates the candidates' proficiency in the English language through three components: Essay (10 marks), Précis writing (10 marks), and Comprehension (10 marks). This test will be conducted online and is specifically in the English language.

To qualify for the evaluation of the Descriptive Test, candidates must first achieve a minimum score in each section of the Objective Test. The answer scripts of the Descriptive Test will only be assessed for those candidates who clear the objective test.

The cut-off marks for the evaluation of the Descriptive Test will be determined based on the number of vacancies. These marks will be separate from the objective test cut-offs. Moreover, it is important to note that the scores obtained in the Descriptive Test will not be considered for shortlisting candidates for the interview or final selection.

To be shortlisted for the interview, candidates must achieve a minimum total score in the objective test, which will be determined by the company according to the number of vacancies. Along with this, candidates must also pass the Descriptive Test.

NICL Assistant Officer Interview 

  • For Generalists And Specialists Candidates 

The NICL Assistant Officer Interview is the final stage of the selection process for candidates aspiring to join the NICL position. The interview aims to assess a candidate's personality, communication skills, and general awareness. Candidates will be shortlisted for Interview on the basis of overall marks scored in Main Examination after evaluation as above.

  • For Rajbhasha/ Hindi Stream Candidates

NICL Assistant Officer Exam Marking Scheme

Applicable to all candidates: 

In the objective test, except for the "English Language" section, the questions will be available in both English and Hindi.

 All questions will be in multiple-choice format, where candidates must select the correct answer by clicking on it using the mouse. It is important to note that there will be a penalty for incorrect answers. For every question answered incorrectly, one-fourth of the marks assigned to that question will be deducted as a penalty. 

This deduction is to obtain the corrected score. However, if a question is left unanswered, with no option clicked, there will be no penalty imposed. The chosen alternative will be highlighted and treated as the candidate's answer to that particular question.

NICL Assistant Officer Exam Language

The NICL Assistant Officer Exam is conducted in bilingual mode, i.e., English and Hindi, except for the test on English language. Candidates are allowed to choose the language in which they wish to take the exam, and they can switch between the languages at any time during the exam.
