Exam Pattern
The Management Aptitude Test or MAT is conducted by AIMA in both online and offline mode. The choice is up to the candidates which of these modes they want to opt for. - There will be a total of 200 objective-type questions from five sections: Language Comprehension, Intelligence and Critical Reasoning, Data Analysis and Sufficiency, Mathematical Skills, and Indian and Global Environment.
- Each section will have 40 questions.
- The total timing of the test will be 2 hours & 30 minutes (150 minutes).
- There will be a negative marking of 0.25 marks.
- The obtained scores in the section of the Indian & Global Environment will not be taken into account to calculate the merit or percentile score in the MAT scorecard.
MAT Exam Pattern 2024
The MAT is an objective type test designed and developed to ascertain the aptitude of the candidates to undergo the Post Graduate Programme in Management. Aptitude is the potential of an individual to perform subsequent to proper training.
MAT exam is conducted four times by the All India Management Association (AIMA) in a year in the months of February, May, September, and December.
The paper will have 200 questions in MCQs form, from 5 sections as mentioned in the table below:

- The Duration of the exam is 2 hours 30 minutes.
- Merit Score in the MAT exam is calculated on the basis of 4 sections only - Language Comprehension, Mathematical skills, Data Analysis and Sufficiency, and Intelligence and Critical Reasoning
- For a cut-off above the 90 percentile, a candidate is required to score more than 100 marks in the 4 sections mentioned above, while the 5th section on the Indian and Global Environment is not counted in the percentile calculation.
- The score of Indian & Global Environment is separately shown but is not taken into account to calculate the merit or percentile in the MAT scorecard
MAT Internet-Based Test (IBT)
Candidates can also take the remote-proctored internet-based test (IBT) in addition to the paper-based test (PBT). A new mode of conducting MAT has been added in 2020: the Internet-Based Test or the IBT.
- To take the IBT MAT 2022 exam, test takers must have a computer with a webcam, a stable internet connection, and other requirements.
- Using powerful AI-based tools that serve as human proctors, AIMA has effectively kept the test secure and sanctified through remote proctoring.
- The MAT 2022 mock tests are being offered by AIMA at nominal rates to familiarize candidates with the new exam pattern.
- There are two types of remote-proctored internet-based tests available, they are; One Remote-Proctored Internet Based Test and Double Remote Proctored Internet Based Test.
