Question
In the question below some statements are given
followed by three conclusions I, II and III. You have to take the given statements to be true even if they seem to be at variance with commonly known facts. Read all the conclusions and then decide which of the given conclusion definitely follows from the given statements, disregarding commonly known facts. Statements: Only a few Turmeric is Cumin. All Tamarind is Cumin. Only Cumin is Coriander. Conclusion: I. Some Tamarind can be Turmeric. II. Some Coriander are Tamarind. III. Every Cumin cannot be Tamarind.Solution
Only a few Turmeric is Cumin (I) + [All Tamarind is Cumin (A) → Conversion] → Some Cumin are Tamarind (I) → Probable conclusion → Some Tamarind can be Turmeric (I). Hence conclusion I follows. Only Cumin is Coriander → All Coriander are Cumin and Coriander cannot have positive relation with anyone. Hence conclusion II does not follow but conclusion III follow.
