Question
Statements: All gates are lights. No street is a gate. All lights are houses. Conclusions
I. All gates are houses.
II. Some houses are not lights.
III. Some lights are streets.
In each of the questions below are given three statements followed by three conclusions numbered I, II andIII. You have to take the given statements to be true even if they seem to be at variance with commonly known facts. Read all the conclusions and then decide which of given conclusions logically follows from the given statements disregarding commonly known facts.
Solution
All gates are lights(A) + All lights are houses(A) ⇒ All gates are houses(A). Hence, conclusion I follows. All lights are houses(A) ⇒ Conversion ⇒ Some houses are lights (I). Hence, conclusion II does not follow. No street is a gate(E) + All gates are lights(A) ⇒ Some lights are not streets(O*). Hence, conclusion III does not follow.
