Question
A train can cross a pole in 8 seconds while it can cross a
216 metres long platform in 26 seconds. Find the time (in hours) taken by the train to cover a distance of 432 km if the train increased its speed by 25%.Solution
Let speed of train is 'x' m/s while length of the train is 'l' metres.
So, l = 8x And, l + 216 = 26x
Or, 8x + 216 = 26x
Or, 18x = 216
Or, x = 12
So, Speed of train = 12 × 18/5 = 43.2 km/h
Desired time = 432/(1.25 × 43.2) = 8.0 hours
