    Train M, ‘x’ metres long crosses (x – 40) metres

    long platform in 20 seconds while train N having the length (x + 40) metres crosses the same platform in 25 seconds. If the speeds of both trains are same then find the value of ‘x’.

    Solution

    Total distance travelled by train M = (2x – 40) m Total distance travelled by train N = (x + 40 + x – 40) = 2x m According to question, => (2x – 40)/20 = 2x/25 => 50x – 1000 = 40x => 10x = 1000 => x = 100 m
