Question

    Train ‘A’ running with a speed of 108 km/hr

crosses a vertical pole in 13 seconds. Find the approx. time taken by the train ‘A’ to cross a train ‘B’ whose length is 110 metres less than that of train ‘A’ and whose speed is 1/3 more than that of train ‘A’ if both are running in opposite direction.
A 18 seconds Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 13 seconds Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 14 seconds Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 17 seconds Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E 10 seconds Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    Speed of train ‘A’ = 108 × (5/18) = 30 m/sec
    Length of train ‘A’ = 30 × 13 = 390 metres
    Length of train ‘B’ = 390 – 110 = 280 metres
    Speed of train ‘B’ = 30 + (30/3) = 40 m/sec
    Required time taken = (390 + 280)/(30 + 40) = 9.57 = 10 seconds
