Question
The speed of a truck is 10% more than that of a
tractor. If the time taken by the truck to cover (3x + 14) km is equal to the time taken by the tractor to cover (2x + 60) km. If the speed of a car is 80 km/hr, then find the time taken by it to cover (x + 175) km.Solution
Let the speed of tractor be 'a' km/hr Therefore, speed of truck = '1.1a' km/hr According to the question, {(3x + 14)/1.1a} = {(2x + 60)/a} Or, 3x + 14 = 2.2x + 66 Or, 0.8x = 52 Or, 'x' = (52/0.8) = 65 Therefore, (x + 175) = 65 + 175 = 240 Required time taken = (240/80) = 3 hours
