Question
Two cyclists, βPβ and βQβ, started from
locations βLβ and βRβ towards each other at the same time. When they met after 4 hours, cyclist βQβ had travelled 44 km more than cyclist βPβ. Find the distance travelled by cyclist βPβ in 3 hours if the total distance between both locations is 244 km.Solution
Let distance travelled by cyclist βPβ at the time of meet = βxβ km
So, distance travelled by cyclist βQβ at the time of meet = βx + 44β km
According to question:
x + x + 44 = 244
Or, 2x = 200
Or, x = 100
Distance travelled by cyclist βPβ in 4 hours = 100 km
Speed of cyclist βPβ = 100 / 4 = 25 km/h
Distance travelled by cyclist βPβ in 3 hours = 25 Γ 3 = 75 km
