A car was driven for 2.5 hours at a speed of 100 km/h and
then for 1.5 hours at a speed of 80 km/h. Find the car's average speed for the total journey.Solution
ATQ,
Total distance travelled by the car = 100 × 2.5 + 80 × 1.5 = 250 + 120 = 370 km
Total time taken = 2.5 + 1.5 = 4 hours
So, average speed = total distance travelled ÷ total time taken = 370 ÷ 4 = 92.5 km/h
