Question
The speed of a train is 50% more than that of a car. If
the time taken by the train to cover (4x + 60) km is equal to the time taken by the car to cover (2x + 100) km. If the speed of a bike is 40 km/hr, then find the time taken by it to cover (x + 30) km.Solution
Let the speed of car be 'a' km/hr Therefore, speed of train = '1.5a' km/hr According to the question, {(4x + 60)/1.5a} = {(2x + 100)/a} Or, 4x + 60 = 3x + 150 Or, x = 90 Therefore, (x + 30) = 90 + 30 = 120 Required time taken = (120/40) = 3 hours
