Question
Two buses ‘R’ and ‘S’, which were 880 km apart,
started traveling towards each other at the same time and met after 5.5 hours. If the speed of bus ‘R’ is 12 km/h more than the speed of bus ‘S’, then find the speed of bus ‘R’.Solution
ATQ,
Sum of the distance travelled by both buses = 880 km
Let the speed of bus S = ‘x’ km/h
So, speed of bus R = ‘x + 12’ km/h
So, 5.5x + 5.5(x + 12) = 880
Or, 5.5x + 5.5x + 66 = 880
Or, 11x = 814
Or, x = 74
So, the speed of bus R = (x + 12) = (74 + 12) = 86 km/h.
