Question
Two runners ‘A’ and ‘B’, which were 600 km apart,
started running towards each other at the same time and met after 4 hours. If the speed of runner ‘A’ is 8 km/h more than the speed of runner ‘B’, then find the speed of runner ‘A’.Solution
ATQ,
Sum of the distance travelled by both runners = 600 km
Let the speed of runner B = ‘x’ km/h
So, speed of runner A = ‘x + 8’ km/h
So, 4x + 4(x + 8) = 600
Or, 4x + 4x + 32 = 600
Or, 8x = 568
Or, x = 71
So, the speed of runner A = (x + 8) = (71 + 8) = 79 km/h
