Question
Number of faculties in Physics and Biology in an
institute is in the ratio of 5:8 respectively. If 120 more faculties join Physics, while 64 more faculties join Biology, the respective ratio becomes 3:4. Originally what was the total number of faculties in both together? ÂSolution
Let the original number of faculties in Physics and Biology be 5x and 8x respectively According to the question,  => (5x + 120)/(8x + 64) = 3/4 => 24x + 192 = 20x + 480 => x = 72 Original number of faculties = 5x + 8x = 13x = 13 × 72 = 936
