      Question

The measures of the three angles of a triangle are in

the ratio 17 : 13 : 15. Find the positive difference between the greatest and the smallest of these three angles.
A 16° Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 24° Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 20° Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 12° Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

      Solution

      Let the angles be 17x, 13x, and 15x. 17x + 13x + 15x = 180 ⟹  45x = 180  ⟹  x=4 Angles are 17 × 4 = 68° , 13 × 4 = 52°, and 15 × 4 = 60°.  Greatest angle = 68°, Smallest angle = 52°. Difference = 68 – 52 = 16°.
