    minutes and 80 minutes, respectively. Another outlet pipe 'C' can empty the tank in 160 minutes. If all the three pipes are opened together, then find the time taken by them to fill the tank.

    Solution

    Let the total capacity of the tank be 160 litres (LCM of 40, 80, and 160).
    Efficiency of 'A' = 160 ÷ 40 = 4 litres/minute
    Efficiency of 'B' = 160 ÷ 80 = 2 litres/minute
    Efficiency of 'C' = 160 ÷ 160 = -1 litre/minute
    Required time = 160 ÷ (4 + 2 - 1) = 160 ÷ 5 = 32 minutes
