Then, Only English = 70x – A Only Maths = 60x – A Total students = (Only Eng) + (Only Maths) + (Both pass) + (Both fail) = (70x – A) + (60x – A) + A + 10x = 140x – A But total = 100x, so 140x – A = 100x A = 40x Given A = 120, 40x = 120 x = 3 Total students passed in English = 70x = 70 × 3 = 210
