Two numbers ‘p’ and ‘q’ add up to 840. If ‘p’

is decreased by 5% and ‘q’ is increased by 10%, the values become equal. What is the value of ‘q’?
A 389.27 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 286.25 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 167.44 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 256.70 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

      Solution

      ATQ,

      p + q = 840 ……(i)

      ATQ,

      0.95 × p = 1.10 × q

      Or, p = (1.10 / 0.95) × q

      So, p = (22q / 19)

Put the value of ‘p’ in equation (i), we get,

      (22q/19) + q = 840

      Or, (41q/19) = 840

      Or, q = 840 × (19/41)

      So, q = 389.27
