Question
A sum of Rs. 36,800 was divided between 'A' and 'B'
such that the amount received by 'B' was 30% more than that by 'A'. If 'A' and 'B' spent 10% and 25% of the respective amounts received by them, then find the sum of amounts spent by 'A' and 'B' together.Solution
Let the amount received by ‘A’ = Rs. ‘10x’ Then amount received by ‘B’ = 10x × 1.3 = Rs. ‘13x’ we have, 10x + 13x = 36800 So, x = 36800 ÷ 23 = 1600 So, amount received by ‘A’ = 10 × 1600 = Rs. 16,000
Amount received by ‘B’ = 13 × 1600 = Rs. 20,800 Amount spent by ‘A’ = 16000 × 0.1 = Rs. 1,600
Amount spent by ‘B’ = 20800 × 0.25 = Rs. 5,200 So, required sum = 1600 + 5200 = Rs. 6,800
