Question
During a college election, two students were in the fray.
The one who received 75% of the valid votes won by a difference of 2250 votes. Determine the number of votes received by the losing candidate.Solution
ATQ,
Let the total valid votes = 100x
Votes received by winner = 100x × 0.75 = 75x
Votes received by loser = 100x - 75x = 25x
As per question,
75x - 25x = 2250
x = 2250 ÷ 50 = 45
So, losing candidate's votes = 25 × 45 = 1125
