Assume total marks = 100x
Pooja's marks = 0.42 × 100x = 42x
Passing marks = 42x + 15
Ramesh’s marks = 0.54 × 100x = 54x
Passing marks = 54x - 21
So, 42x + 15 = 54x - 21
⇒ 12x = 36
⇒ x = 3
Passing marks = 42x + 15 = 42 × 3 + 15 = 126 + 15 = 141
