Question
In a university with 5200 students in 2022, 60% were female
and the rest male. In 2023, the number of females rose by 25%, while the number of males dropped by 20%. Find the percentage change in the total number of students in 2023 compared to 2022.Solution
ATQ,
Number of females in 2022 = 5200 × 0.60 = 3120
Number of males in 2022 = 5200 - 3120 = 2080
Number of females in 2023 = 3120 × (5/4) = 3900
Number of males in 2023 = 2080 × 0.80 = 1664
Total number of students in 2023 = 3900 + 1664 = 5564
So, percentage change in total number of students = {(5564 - 5200) / 5200} × 100 = 7%
