Question
In a school, 40% of the students are girls, and 60% are
boys. Half of the boys are enrolled in class 12, while the remaining 840 boys are in class 10. What is the total number of girls in the school?Solution
ATQ;
Let total population = 't'
Boys = 60% of 't', Girls = 40% of 't'
50% of the boys are enrolled in class 12,
So, 50% are enrolled on class 10
Number of boys who enrolled in class 10 = 0.50 × (0.60T) = 0.30T
Given
0.30t = 840
Hence t = 840 ÷ 0.30 = 2800
Number of girls = 40% of 2800 = 1120
