    marks more than the other. If marks of student who got more marks is 55% of the sum of the marks of both of them, then find the marks obtained by them.

    Solution

    Let total marks obtained by both of them is x and y respectively. x – y = 14 And, x = 0.55 × (x + y) x = 0.55 × (14 + y + y) x = 0.55 × (14 + 2y) x = 7.7 + 1.1y 14 + y = 7.7 + 1.1y 0.1y = 6.3 y = 63 x = 63 + 14 = 77
