Question
Two students appeared in an exam and one secured 13 marks more than the other. If marks of student who got more marks is 60% of the sum of the marks of both of them, then find the marks obtained by them.
Solution
Let total marks obtained by both of them is x and y respectively. x β y = 13 And, x = 0.6 Γ (x + y) x = 0.6 Γ (13 + y + y) x = 0.6 Γ (13 + 2y) x = 7.8 + 1.2y 13 + y = 7.8 + 1.2y 0.2y = 5.2 y = 26 x = 26 + 13 = 39
