Question
A man donated 9%, 20% and 22% of his income to three
NGOs ‘A’, ‘B’ and ‘C’, respectively. They spent 75%, 80% and 50% of respective sums received by them. If total sum left with three NGOs is Rs. 3450, then find the income of man.Solution
Let the income of the man be Rs. x Therefore, sum donated to NGO ‘A’ = Rs. 0.9x Sum left with NGO ‘A’ = 0.25 × 0.9x = Rs. 0.0225x Sum donated to NGO ‘B’ = Rs. 0.20x Sum left with NGO ‘B’ = 0.2 × 0.20x = Rs. 0.04x Sum donated to NGO ‘C’ = Rs. 0.22x Sum left with NGO ‘C’ = 0.5 × 0.22x = Rs. 0.11x According to the question, 0.0225x + 0.04x + 0.11x = 3450 Or, 0.1725x = 3450 Or, x = 3450/0.1725 = 20000 Therefore, income of man = Rs. 20000
