Question
‘X’ invested Rs. 5000 in a business. ‘Y’ joined
x months later with an investment of Rs. 4000. If at the end of the year, Y’s share in the profit is Rs. 3000 out of a total profit of Rs. 9000, find the value of x.Solution
According to the question,
(5000 × 12) : {4000 × (12 – x)} = (9000 – 3000) / 3000
Or, 60000 : {4000(12 – x)} = 6000 / 3000
Or, 60000 : {4000(12 – x)} = 2 : 1
So, 60000 × 1 = 2 × 4000(12 – x)
60000 = 8000(12 – x)
60000 = 96000 – 8000x
8000x = 96000 – 60000
8000x = 36000
x = 4.5 months
