Question
The average of five consecutive numbers is 23. Find the
middle number.Solution
ATQ,
Let the first number be 'x'
Therefore, the five consecutive numbers will be 'x', (x + 1), (x + 2), (x + 3), (x + 4)
ATQ:
x + (x + 1) + (x + 2) + (x + 3) + (x + 4) = 5 × 23
Or, 5x + 10 = 115
Or, 5x = 115 - 10
Or, 5x = 105
Or, x = 105 ÷ 5 = 21
Therefore, the first number = 21
Middle number = (x + 2) = 21 + 2 = 23
