A container has 240 liters of a mixture of milk and
water in the ratio of 5:3. If x liters of the mixture is taken out and replaced with the same amount of water, then the ratio of water to milk becomes 1:1. Find the value of x?Solution
ATQ, Milk in the initial mixture = 240 * 5/(5 + 3) = 240 * 5/8 = 150 liters Water in the initial mixture = 240 – 150 = 90 liters (150 – x * 5/(5 + 3)) / (90 – x * 3/(5 + 3) + x) = 1/1 (150 – 5x/8) / (90 – 3x/8 + x) = 1 150 – 5x/8 = 90 – 3x/8 + x 150 – 5x/8 = 90 + 5x/8 150 – 90 = 5x/8 + 5x/8 60 = 10x/8 60 = 5x/4 x = 60 * 4/5 x = 240/5 x = 48
