Question
A vessel contains 120 litres of mixture (milk + water)
in which milk and water are in the ratio 3:7, respectively. If 40 litres of this mixture is taken out and replaced by 25 litres of milk, then what would be the ratio of quantities of milk and water in the resulting mixture?Solution
ATQ, Initially, Quantity of milk in the mixture = 120 × (3/10) = 36 litres Quantity of water in the mixture = 120 × (7/10) = 84 litres Quantity of milk taken out = 40 × (3/10) = 12 litres Quantity of water taken out = 40 - 12 = 28 litres After removal and addition, Quantity of milk = 36 - 12 + 25 = 49 litres Quantity of water = 84 - 28 = 56 litres Ratio of quantity of milk to that of water = 49:56 = 7:8
