Question
A pipe fills a cubical tank at the rate of 196
m3 per minute in 14 minutes. If a cylindrical tank having height same as the side of a cubical tank and the curved surface area of the cylindrical tank is 1408 m2, then find the difference between the volumes of cylindrical tank and cubical tank.Solution
Capacity of cubical tank = 196 × 14 = 2744 m3 Let, side of cubical tank = ‘x’ m So, x3 = 2744 m3 x = 14 m So, height of cylindrical tank = 14 m Let, radius of cylindrical tank = ‘r’ m So, 2 × 22/7 × r × 14 = 1408 r = 16 m Volume of cylindrical tank =  22/7 × 16 × 16 × 14 = 11264 m3 Required difference = 11264 – 2744 = 8520 m³
