    Question

The length of a rectangle is 3 metres more than its

width. If the perimeter of the rectangle is 50 metres then what is the area (in m2 ) of the rectangle?
A 220 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 154 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 304 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 240 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E None of these Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

    Solution

    Let the width of the rectangle = ‘x’ metres Then, length of the rectangle = (x + 3) metres Perimeter of the rectangle = 2 × (length + width) Or, 2 × (x + x + 3) = 50 Or, 2x + 2x + 6 = 50 Or, 4x = 50 – 6 = 44 Or, x = 44/4 = 11 m So, area of the rectangle = x × (x + 3) = 11 × 14 = 154 m2
