Question
The ratio of income of two friends C and D is 4:5,
respectively. The respective ratio of the expenditure on food and others by C is 5:9 and D spends Rs. 4000 less on these items. The saving of C and D is Rs. 3000 and Rs. 13000, respectively. What is the income of D?Solution
ATQ Let the income of C and D be Rs. 4x and Rs. 5x respectively Let the expenditure of C on food and others be Rs. 5a and Rs. 9a, respectively. And, the expenditure of D = Rs. (14a – 4000) According to the question, 4x – 14a = 3000 … (1) 5x – (14a – 4000) = 13000 Or, 5x – 14a = 9000 … (2) On solving equation (1) & (2) x = Rs. 3000 Therefore, income of D = 5x = Rs.15000
