Question
The speed of boat downstream and upstream is 32 km/hr
and 24 km/hr respectively. Time taken to travel a distance of (d + 55) km downstream and (e + 35) km upstream is 14 hours, and time taken to travel (d + 100) km upstream and (e + 50) km downstream is 20 hours. Find the difference between the value of d and value of e.Solution
According to question, (d+55)/32+(e+35)/24=14 (2d+110+3e+105)/64=14 2d+3e=896–215=681 … (iii) Also, (d+100)/24+(e+50)/32=20 (3d+300+2e+100)/64=20 3d+2e=1280–400=880 … (iv) Solving equation (iii) and (iv), we get, d=125 and e=93 Therefore, required difference = 125 – 93 = 32
