    Solution

    Let speed of downstream and speed of stream be 5x and 3x respectively. Speed of current => 3x = 9 => x = 3 km/hr Downstream speed = 5 × 3 = 15 km/h Speed of boat = 15 - 3 = 12 km/hr Upstream speed = 12 - 3 = 9 km/h Distance travelled upstream in 8 hr = 8 × 9 = 72 km
