Let the distance be x km. Speed upstream = 8 – 2 = 6 km/hr Speed downstream = 8 + 2 = 10 km/hr ⇒ x/6 + x/10 = 1 ⇒ (5x + 3x)/30 = 1 ⇒ 8x = 30 ⇒ x = 30/8 = 3.75 km
