    Solution

    Let the distance be x km. Speed upstream = 10 – 2 = 8 km/hr Speed downstream = 10 + 2 = 12 km/hr ⇒ x/8 + x/12 = 1 ⇒ (3x + 2x)/24 = 1 ⇒ 5x = 24 ⇒ x = 24/5 = 4.8 km
