Question
The average of 18 numbers is 28. The average of first 10 numbers is 30 and that of the last 10 numbers is 26. If 9th number and 10th numbers are excluded, then what is the average of the remaining numbers?
Solution
Sum of 18 numbers = 18 × 28 = 504 Sum of 9th and 10th number = 30 × 10 + 26 × 10 – 504
= 56 × 10 – 504
= 560 – 504
= 56 Desired average = (504 – 56)/(18 – 2) = 28
