The average of 26 numbers is 50. The average of first 14 numbers is 54 and that of the last 14 numbers is 46. If 13th number and 14th numbers are excluded, then what is the average of the remaining numbers?
Solution
Sum of 26 numbers = 26 × 50 = 1300 Sum of 13th and 14th number = 54 × 14 + 46 × 14 – 1300
= 100 × 14 – 1300
= 1400 – 1300
= 100 Desired average = (1300 – 100)/(26 – 2) = 50
