In a football squad of 22 players, the average weight is 75 kg. One player weighing 72 kg leaves, and 2 new players with an average weight of 78 kg join. When the coach’s weight is also included, the average weight becomes 76 kg. What is the coach’s weight?
Solution
Initial total weight = 22 × 75 = 1650 kg
Weight of 2 new players = 2 × 78 = 156 kg Let the coach’s weight be ‘y’
New total weight without coach = 1650 - 72 + 156 + y = (1734 + y)
New total number of people = 22 - 1 + 2 + 1 = 24
New total weight = 24 × 76 = 1824 kg
So, coach’s weight = 1824 - 1734 = 90 kg
