Let the smaller number be 2x.
So, the greater number = 1.5 × 2x = 3x.
ATQ, 2x + 4 = (2x + 3x) / 2
⇒ 2x + 4 = 5x / 2
⇒ 4x + 8 = 5x
⇒ x = 8
So, the sum = 5x = 5 × 8 = 40.
