      Question

The average of series 'S4', which consists of 6 consecutive

even numbers, is 21. The second term of series 'T4', which consists of 5 consecutive odd numbers, is 3 more than the first term of series 'S4'. Find the average of series 'T4'.
A 19 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 20 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 21 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 22 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
E 23 Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

      Solution

      Let six consecutive even numbers be 'a', (a + 2), (a + 4), (a + 6), (a + 8) and (a + 10), respectively.

      ATQ,

      a + a + 2 + a + 4 + a + 6 + a + 8 + a + 10 = 21 X 6

      Or, 6a = 126 - 30

      So, 'a' = (96 / 6) = 16

      So, 2nd term of series 'T4' = 16 + 3 = 19

      So, series 'T4' = 17, 19, 21, 23, 25

      Therefore, required average = (17 + 19 + 21 + 23 + 25) Γ· 5 = 21
