The average age of a category of 5 members is 40 years. If a person whose age is 60 years will left the group and two new persons whose age is 'a' years and 84 years will joins the group, then what will be the new average age of the group becomes 45 years, then What will be the value of 'a'

Solution

Initially, let the sum of the ages of the group members = (40 x 5) = 200 years ATQ, we can say that   (200 - 60 + a + 84) = 45 x 6 Or,  224 + a = 270 or,  a = 270 - 224  Or,  a = 46
