Question
The area of a square is 900 cm2 which is 120
cm2 less than that of a rectangle. Find the perimeter of the rectangle if the length of the rectangle is 10 cm more than the length of each side of the square.Solution
Area of the square = 900 cm2 Length of each side of the square = √900 = 30 cm Area of the rectangle = 900 + 120 = 1020 cm2 Length of the rectangle = 10 + 30 = 40 cm So, area of rectangle = length × breadth = 40 × breadth = 1020 cm2 So, breadth of the rectangle = 1020/40 = 25.5 cm Therefore, perimeter of the rectangle = 2 × (length +breadth) = 2 × (25.5 + 40) = 131 cm
