Let the present age of Varun be ‘x’ years Therefore, present age of Tarun = x + 2x = ‘3x’ years Let, present age of Arun be ‘y’ years Given, y – x = 3 Or, x = y – 3 Also, (3x + 3) = 2 × (y + 3) Or, 3 × (y – 3) + 3 = 2y + 6 Or, 3y – 9 + 3 = 2y + 6 Or, y = 12 Therefore, x = y – 3 = 9 Therefore, present age of Tarun = 3x = 3 × 9 = 27 years
