      Question

The current average age of X, Y and Z is 35 years. Three

times the current age of Y is 60 more than twice the current age of X. If the age of Z after 10 years will be 25% more than his present age, find the present age of X.
A 12 yrs Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
B 36 yrs Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
C 27 yrs Correct Answer Incorrect Answer
D 15 yrs Correct Answer Incorrect Answer

      Solution

      ATQ,

      Present age of Z = 10 / 0.25 = 40 years

Let present ages of X and Y be x and y, respectively.

      So, x + y = 35 Γ— 3 – 40 = 65 ………………(1)

      And, 3y – 2x = 60 ………………(2)

      Equation (1) Γ— 3 – Equation (2), we get

      3x + 3y – 3y + 2x = 65 Γ— 3 – 60

      Or, 5x = 135

      Or, x = 27

So, present age of X = 27 years
