Section 53 of the Copyright Act, 1957 deals with the importation of infringing copies. It empowers the Registrar of Copyrights, upon application by the copyright owner and after due inquiry, to prohibit the import of copies made outside India that would infringe copyright if made in India. The Registrar or an authorized person may enter ships, docks, or premises to search for such copies. Importing infringing copies into India, except for a single copy for private use (with some exceptions), constitutes infringement under this section
