Section 23(1) of the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023 makes a confession made to a police officer inadmissible, but the proviso to section 23(2) saves so much of the information as relates distinctly to the fact thereby discovered, permitting that fact to be proved even though the confession itself is excluded. A confession caused by any inducement, threat or promise proceeding from a person in authority is rendered irrelevant by section 22.
