The Thematic Apperception Test (TA

The Thematic Apperception Test (TAT) was created during the 1930s by American psychologist Henry A. Murray and lay psychoanalyst Christiana D. Morgan at Harvard University. Core Mechanism: The TAT is a projective psychological test. Respondents are shown a series of ambiguous picture cards displaying various social situations and interpersonal interactions. Subjects are asked to construct a narrative or story explaining what led up to the event, what the characters are thinking and feeling, and how the story resolves. Application in OB & Motivation: In Organizational Behavior, David McClelland extensively used the TAT to measure individual motive profiles—specifically the Need for Achievement ({Ach}), Need for Power ({Pow}), and Need for Affiliation ({Aff}) under his Three Needs Theory.
